To begin, we will guide you through the simple process of preparing the chicken thighs by marinating them in a savory mixture of Alabama spices, including garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, brown sugar, and a hint of cayenne pepper for a touch of heat. You’ll be blown away by how these flavors come together to create a unique and unforgettable taste for these white barbecue chicken sliders!
Ingredients:
1. Place the chicken into the Crockpot.
2. Add 1/4 cup water, granulated chicken bouillon, 4 tbsp. of butter, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder onto the chicken.
3. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 5-6 hours until the chicken is cooked or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees. About 1 hour before the chicken is done, lay the onion rings on top of the chicken in the crockpot.
Yes, it’s very easy to make the pulled chicken in an instant pot so that you can make instant pot Alabama chicken sliders! Note you will still need to shred the chicken, make the sauce on the side, build the sandwich, and bake them in the oven.
4. In a small bowl, add the Alabama White Sauce ingredients listed above. Whisk them together until the sauce is smooth. Cover and place in the fridge to thicken and chill.
5. When the chicken is cooked, remove the onion slices and set them aside. Let the chicken cool for about 10 to 15 minutes, then take two forks and shred the chicken. Place the shredded chicken into a bowl. Then add about 3- 4 tablespoons of the drippings from the Crockpot back onto the shredded chicken to keep it moist.
6. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
7. Remove the rolls from the package. Place them on a baking sheet, then spread about 3 to 4 tablespoons of butter and then sprinkle a little garlic salt on both the tops and bottoms. Place them in the broiler face up for about 3-4 minutes until they get brown and crispy on the edges.
8. Then place the bottom halves in a 9 x 13 pre-greased baking dish. Place 2-3 pickles onto the bottom buns, then add the shredded chicken. Place the softened onion rings and generously spoon the Alabama White Sauce over the top of the chicken. Put the top half of the bun on and bake them uncovered in the oven for about 10 minutes.
9. Lightly brush them with melted butter about 1 to 2 minutes before they are done. Place them back into the oven uncovered for about 2-3 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
Feel free to customize your sliders with an array of toppings such as pickles, coleslaw, or your favorite barbecue sauce. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to truly make these sliders your own and cater to your personal preferences.
