Deep Fried Hush Puppies Recipe

What you will need to make this recipe:

1  Cup Self-Rising Flour

3  Cups Self-Rising Cornmeal Mix

½ Cup Sugar

1  Tsp. White Pepper

½ Cup Green Bell Peppers (diced)

1  Cup Sweet Onions (finely diced)

1  Cup Frozen Sweet Corn (thawed)

1  Tbsp. Diced Jalapeno Peppers

2  Eggs (lightly beaten)

1  Cup Buttermilk

1  Tbsp. Vegetable Oil

Vegetable Oil for frying

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup Self-Rising Flour
  • 3 cups Self-Rising Cornmeal Mix
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 Tsp. White Pepper
  • 1/2 cup Green Bell Peppers (diced)
  • 1 cup Sweet Onions (finely diced)
  • 1 cup Frozen Sweet Corn (thawed)
  • 1 Tbsp. Diced Jalapeno Peppers
  • 2 Eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
  • Vegetable Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour, self-rising cornmeal mix, sugar, and pepper.  Stir in the green bell peppers, sweet onions, sweet corn, jalapeno peppers, eggs, and vegetable oil.  Then slowly stir in the buttermilk and mix until combined and the dough is moist.
  2. In a deep-frying pan, add 2 – 3 inches of vegetable oil and heat to 360 degrees.  Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons into the hot oil and fry in small batches for 2 – 3 minutes or until golden brown.  Then place it on a plate lined with paper towels.
  3. Serve with your favorite southern meal and enjoy these delicious Hush Puppies…they are crispy on the outside, soft, and tender on the inside.
